Flamenco for Everybody The DRILL

Looking back, this show was meant to happen.

One day, a young boy on a scooter asked me ‘are you making a show?’. I said ‘no, I was just practising’.

His innocence and naivety inspired me to create a show that would be accessible to all people, which I brought to the local community in November at the tail end of lockdowns.

Initially, I was supported through NSW National Council of Jewish Women. When the support ended, I decided it was time to produce the show myself.

Autonomy has become an imperative.

And it was important for the community to see the show and Critical Path and Woollahra Council graciously gave the space as in-kind.

This period of dancing outdoors is also where I received the encouragement from locals to start teaching flamenco locally, and I now has 15 students taking regular classes in Rushcutter’s Bay.

The wonderful, friendly & supportive community of the area, the nature of new Covid living conditions, have all led me to more dancing, choreographing & teaching.
